I am a student first and an athlete second, I am here to get my degree and have been privileged enough to gain an opportunity to pole vault for the University. There are only two home meets total here in Norman, so if anyone would like to come and support the Track & Field team I will gladly tell you when those meets are.

This year is my Junior year and I have really enjoyed my time here in Oklahoma. Originally I am from Colorado. I am pretty far from where I grew up and don't really get much time with my family due to shorter breaks. Most of the time I spend is on my studies or at the track training, but I do occasionally have free time and in that time I like to hang out with my friends, go fishing, hunting, or just relax and watch some Netflix. If you have read my week one posts you will have realized by now that I am a Supernatural fan and have watched every episode at least five times. I do enjoy other shows as well, but they have to be interesting enough to make me engage my mind and think about the storylines.
Theres so much more I could put into this introduction post but I think if I said it all here that there wouldn't be any future conversations to have with my classmates! I look forward to reading and talking with y'all about our blog posts this year!
Oh, I will definitely want to include the track home meets in the class announcements, Justin: how great! ...ohhh, I just checked soonersports.com, and I see the track season doesn't start until January. But look at all those places you get to go: wow! I lived in Nashville for quite a few years; that is a really nice city, and the Vandy campus is in a great part of town (that's where I worked). I hope you will have a great season ahead! And it sounds like you might be doing a Supernatural project for this class; there have been some great stories and Storybooks inspired by that show. Did you see this one? A Grimm-Supernatural mash-up, very fun: Brothers Cross Paths: Winchesters Meet Grimm ... so keep the Supernatural possibilities in mind when you do the project brainstorming later this week!
ReplyDeleteHi Justin! I want to start out by saying that you earned my immediate and undying friendship with the words "Supernatural fan". Anyone with the discernment to appreciate the awesomeness of Sam and Dean rocks! I've had several family members who were student athletes, and I've always been really impressed at the amount of dedication that it takes to do it all. Athletics are extremely time consuming, and it has got to be exhausting sometimes! I'm looking forward to getting to know you better, and if you do a Supernatural themed project I will be first in line to read it.
ReplyDeleteHi Justin! This is going to sound really weird, but I think we actually met once in freshman year through a mutual friend who is also from Colorado. You sound really passionate about Communication which is really cool! What do you hope to do after college? Pole vault is a unique sport. How did you get into it?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get to know you more throughout the semester!
Hi Justin! I have quite a few family members that are from Colorado as well and I visit them frequently. It’s a beautiful state full of scenery that always attracts me to it. I am into the outdoor life so I also hang out with my friends and go fishing or hunting. I think it’s very cool you are in the track team and wish nothing but the best this season, good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Justin,
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I never had much appreciation for how hard it is to be a student-athlete until my brother started playing baseball in high school, but now I do. I'm glad you're able to keep your studies first.
I'm also pretty far from my family, being from Georgia. I've never been to Colorado, but I've heard it's lovely. Is it all mountainous or are there flat parts as well?
I like how you included your openness to debate ideas in your introduction. Is that a large part of a Communications major?
Hey Justin, I really admire your dedication to school while also being a student athlete. Have you always been a pole vaulter, or was that something that you just got interested in during college? I definitely think it would be fun to come to a meet! Anyway, good luck with your major and good luck with your junior year!
ReplyDeleteHey Justin,
ReplyDeleteI am a communication major as well so we have that in common. I played baseball my first year of college at Seminole State. Its a JUCO just about 45 minutes from Norman and let me tell you it was baseball 24/7. I understand the small amount of free time you get. Although I am originally from Tulsa so I was a bit closer to my family. I played with guys from all over from Canada to the Dominican Republic so ive been around people that were super far from there families. Good luck on the rest of the semester!
Hi Justin! It must be incredibly difficult to keep up with both track and school but I admire your dedication to your school work! Education is one of the most important things in life and it is something that can never be taken away from you! One of my best friends did pole vaulting in high school and went to state for it several times. I was always impressed by how graceful you guys make it look but I know if I tried it I would probably break something! Colorado is such a beautiful state, for my major our capstone is actually a field camp up in Canon City so I will be there for three weeks next summer! Good luck this year!
ReplyDeleteHey Justin! Some of my best friends from high school are now student-athletes in track and field (at different schools), and they are constantly telling me how hard it is to keep up. Good job for doing so! I used to watch Supernatural religiously, but I have to say that there has now been too many almost apocalypses for my taste. I've recently started watching Lucifer, which is really good in my opinion, and if you have the time, I would definitely check it out. I totally want to visit Colorado one day, but I haven't gotten a chance to, since it's a little while away from my hometown in New York. And travel is money. Good luck this semester!
ReplyDeleteHello Justin! I am a Supernatural fan as well! I am normally not one for scary stories or scary themes, but Supernatural does such a good job that I am able to get past that and really enjoy the show. What are you hoping to do with your major in Communication? Did you pick it with a specific job in mind, or do you like the subject and have many avenues that you wish to explore with it?
ReplyDeleteHi Justin, it’s so cool that you are able to balance pole vaulting along with school! I have played volleyball pretty much my whole life but I decided to give it up when I started at OU because I didn’t know I was going to balance everything. I am also a huge supernatural fan!! I can quote Sam and Dean’s lines by heart.
ReplyDeleteHi, Justin! I would like to start out by saying I really appreciate your open mindedness and ability to have conversations about conflicting view-points. I always enjoy a great conversation and I wish more people would be as open to hear other opinions and discuss them. Anyways, it is so impressive that you are a student athlete! I could not imagine attempting to manage school as well as athletics. Best of Luck!
ReplyDeleteHey Justin!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is pretty cool that you are from Colorado because every time I have been there it has been so beautiful and full of great memories. I have never seen Supernatural but I am in need of a new show so maybe that will be the next thing I start. I also like how you truly are an open person and would love to here other people’s opinions on matters. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of this semester!
Hi Justin! That is so cool that you a student athlete here! I am only a student involved in some other on campus things and I have a hard time getting everything done sometimes so I can only imagine what that might be like for you. Also, that is so cool that you are from Colorado. It is such a beautiful state! Good luck in your pole vaulting endeavors this year!
ReplyDeleteHey Justin!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely tell you are very outgoing and personable just from your writing. You seem like a very genuinely nice person and that shows through in this post! Wow, Colorado, how cool! I have never been to Colorado but I have always wanted to go because I have heard it is absolutely beautiful! What part of Colorado are you from? I’m sure being away from your family for long periods of time is hard, I hop you get to see them as much as possible!
Hi Justin!
ReplyDeleteI'm always so impressed with student athletes, because you really have to be committed to both school and your sport, and I think that's wonderful. I had no idea there were so few home meets, but hopefully that means you get to travel a lot! Colorado is beautiful and I'd love to live there someday - you're lucky! I've been to Pagosa Springs many times, but I haven't really visited anywhere else. I'm from New Mexico, so I relate to being far from home and family. It makes time with family even better though, doesn't it? Good luck with the last few weeks of your semester!
Hi Justin! Great to meet you through this post! I loved hearing about your open attitude toward learning — it's great that you're willing to take constructive criticism and be challenged. Also, I totally relate to never really being able to go home — my family lives in Atlanta. But it just means that visits home are that much better! I hope you have a great final few weeks of the semester.
ReplyDeleteHello Justin! Welcome to Oklahoma, although you have been here a few years... I am also a huge Supernatural fan. I got hooked when I was in the hospital for an extended period of time and would see the reruns. I binge watched 11 seasons in a few days because I am not a quitter haha. I hope you are enjoying your time at OU and congratulations on being a student athlete, I know that can't be easy.
ReplyDeleteHi Justin!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I really like the design and layout you have chosen for your blog. I also like the image you have incorporated into your introduction. I think it’s so cool that you are part of the track and field team and you compete in pole volt! I hope you are having a good semester so far and I can’t wait to explore the rest of your blog!
Hi Justin!

Hi Justin! It's nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI think it's really cool that I'm still meeting new people at this point in the semester. I can't imagine trying to be an athlete as well as a student, but I do think that pole vaulting is super cool! Looking at it from a physics point of view, it has to be done perfectly to arc your center of gravity correctly. I've always wanted to try it, but I don't think I'd be any good.
Hi Justin!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! I'm glad that I have gotten to meet you before the semester is over! It's really cool that you are an athlete here at OU! Like others have said before - I can't image being a student and an athlete. So, I am forever inspired by your guys' ability to stay on top of athletics and academics. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the semester that we have left! Nice to meet you!
Hey Justin.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you man. Glad to see another Comm major. Have you had a class with J. Banas yet? Dude is hysterical, highly recommend. Congrats on staying a student/athlete. I definitely know how hard that is. Hope the rest of the semester goes well for you.
Hi Justin! Hope that you're having a good end of semester and that your student athlete schedule is keeping you too busy! That's so cool that you have had the opportunity to be a student and run track! I also love that you're a Supernatural Fan, I used to watch it but it kinda scares me lol! I hope pole vaulting goes well and that you finish out the rest of the semester in one piece! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Justin!
ReplyDeleteIt’s so impressive that you do pole vaulting! I’ve never met anyone that does that! And I love Supernatural too! I’m not caught up though, I think I’m still somewhere around the eighth season. Anyway, it’s nice to “meet” you and I’m looking forward to reading what you have written on your blog throughout the semester so far!
Hey Justin!
ReplyDeleteWhere do I begin? Well even though I already knew all of this, it is great to see it in writing. I feel like you could have been a little bit more personal and open up a bit more to the readers. I am excited to read more of your blog these last two weeks!
Hi Justin!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to meet you (even though it is so late in the semester)! I love that you are open to discussion new and different opinions. It is so neat that you get to practice athletics while you are at University. I haven’t made it through the entire series of Supernatural, but I am currently making my way.
Hey Justin! It’s crazy to me that it’s basically the last week of the semester and I’m just now seeing your page pop up for the first time. It’s nice to meet you. I’ve heard that Colorado is beautiful, and I’d love to take a vacation there someday. Do you have any cool suggestions on what to do or where, specifically, to visit? I watched Supernatural up to around season seven! I really enjoyed it and can’t remember why I stopped watching. Good luck with dead week and your finals!
ReplyDeleteHi, Justin! I agree that learning involves communicating, especially if it about conflicting opinions. It make sense for you to be outgoing and a Communications major, I could never be either of those. I do relate to Netflix, I think I’m still on season 10 of SPN, it’s been awhile since I binged it. I wish you luck on the rest of this semester and your upcoming ones as well!
